Vettel Three Place Grid Penalty For Japanese Grand Prix

After the first-corner collision with Rosberg at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel has been given a three-place grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix in one week’s time.

Rosberg and Vettel came together at Turn One – Vettel was on the inside line trying to get past Verstappen who was on his left side. Rosberg was on the outside line, again trying to get past but some could say he closed the gap too much.

Vettel ended up colliding with Rosberg, spinning him round however Vettel was the one who came off worse – retiring from the race.

Personally, I don’t think a grid penalty should have been issued – you have to consider the circumstances and the chaos all around, especially when it’s the first turn / corner on the first lap.

I believe it simply was a racing incident so I don’t think the penalty was necessary.

Again, people will argue with this and say that these drivers are the best drivers in the world and should be on full alert at all times but like we’ve said above, it’s a racing incident and things like this do happen with the chaotic starts of Formula 1.

Neither Sebastian Vettel or Maurizio Arrivabene commented on the penalty given after the race – they have work to do ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix in a week’s time.

More to come on the blog soon so make sure you keep checking back! 🙂
