When was the track built?

The deal to host Formula 1 in Melbourne was done in 1993, with the decision taken to create a circuit using a mixture of the existing roads.

The first Grand Prix took place in 1996 – the start of 1996 and this is the race that is most often remembered for Martin Brundle’s crash down at Turn 3 after launching himself off the back of Johnny Herbet’s Sauber.

What Is The Circuit Like?

With resurfacing happening in 2022, this has made the circuit (at the start of a weekend) quite slippery however over the weekend, the track progresses.

Melbourne is one of the faster tracks on the calendar and in 2019, it was Lewis Hamilton who set an average of over 235km/h.
