The 2024 Australian Grand Prix is around the corner and following on from the second race of the season, a lot of people are questioning if Carlos Sainz will be the driver alongside Charles Leclerc or if we’ll be seeing Oliver Bearman at Ferrari – yet again?
Oliver Bearman is now being linked to Haas for 2025.
Will He Be Well Enough and Will The Medical Team Allow Him To Drive?
Next Friday, the start of Free Practice 1 in Melbourne, it will be two weeks into the operation recovery for Carlos Sainz.
Normally, it takes at least 4-6 weeks for someone to be able to get back into their normal activities following an appendix operation.
Releasing the following statement after his surgery along with an image from hospital.
Sainz: “Underwent a smooth operation today and I’m feeling much better! Thank you for all your kind messages and to everyone that has looked after me these days here in Saudi, especially at the King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital.“
The next day, as we saw, Sainz was back in the paddock – walking around slowly.
He wanted to make an appearance and get back into recovery mode, after all, he does have a seat that he needs to win for 2025.
What Happens With His Recovery Programme?
From the details and what is understood, the Ferrari driver will be undergoing an intensive recovery programme.
Spain is amongst the leading sporting medicine and for treating athletes.
Normally, an intensive programme will be taken on by sportsmen and sportswomen who are injured and seeking rehabilitation – quickly.
The main thing is for Carlos Sainz to be able to recover properly and this is echoed by the team.
Fred Vasseur: “Carlos is now flying back and will rest for a whole week. Then, when goes to Melbourne, we will make the decision. I’m pretty optimistic, I don’t want to rush anything but he is an adult and will make the right decision.“
Whilst the questions have been raised, the main thing is for any driver to recover correctly and to make sure they don’t cause themselves further harm.
According to the recovery timings, Carlos Sainz should be able to return to work AFTER the Australian Grand Prix.
The recommendation falls within 4-6 weeks, making it around the time of the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix.
