Alonso: “It Was An Amazing Battle” – After the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix

This was perhaps one of the closest races that we have seen this year – with plenty of battles throughout the grid, lasting right until the last lap!

One of the battles that seems to be a major talking point is between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton – especially in the last few races.

Both drivers have been showing each other a great amount of respect, on and off-grid – commenting on each others achievements in their interviews.

2023 Canadian Grand Prix – Alonso and Hamilton

On the opening lap, we saw Hamilton get a good start – overtaking Alonso who was on the dirty side of the track.

During their second stops, we saw Hamilton going back to the mediums and Alonso taking on the hard tyres – lasting the race whilst looking after an issue with the car, as explained in the post-race interview, further below.

A good race for Mercedes / Hamilton but not for Russell who had to retire.

Fernando Alonso when asked if he expected the race to be like this yes: “Probably yes, I think we were hoping to challenge a little bit more, the Red Bull but we lost a place at the start with Lewis.”

“Then it was a battle with the Mercedes and Lewis was pushing all the race. I didn’t have one lap where I could relax a little bit so, it was an amazing battle.”

“At the beginning, I had a little bit more pace and at the end, I think Lewis had a little bit more pace. It was tough, a very demanding race and all 70 laps of qualifying today.”

“I don’t know what happened, they didn’t tell me about the car but maybe it was to make me not worry too much.”

“I feel the car was OK but I was just following the instructions. Hopefully, that means that we have a little bit more pace so at the next one, we can put a bit more pressure on Max.”
