United States Grand Prix Practices

With the US Grand Prix fast approaching, here’s all the latest from the United States Grand Prix Practices.

During FP1, Lewis Hamilton showed that he had the upper hand only for things to change in Nico Rosberg’s favour during FP2 with Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) splitting the two Mercedes drivers.

There’s still FP3 tomorrow along with qualifying – it’s Formula 1 and anything can happen.

Marcus Ericsson

FP1 – 16th – 1:41.170 (17 Laps)

FP2 – 21st – 1:40.219 (28 Laps)

“It has not been the best day for me. In FP2 I was struggling a bit with the balance of the car, especially on the supersoft tyres!”

“I didn’t get a good feeling for the car and we still have some work to do for the rest of the weekend – it is positive that other than that, the car seemed to have overall a good balance.”

“We can learn from this in order to be stronger for tomorrow.”

Felipe Nasr

FP1 – 12th – 1:40.287  (16 Laps)

FP2 – 13th – 1:39.189 (28 Laps)

“It was a positive day – I was able to get a good feeling from FP1 and we worked through different set-ups for the car. It seems like we are moving in the right direction.”

“So far, our pace looks good but we will know everything after we analyse all the data and see where we stand – nevertheless, it’s a good start to the weekend.”

United States Grand Prix Practices – Sahara Force India Formula 1 Team

Nico Hulkenberg

FP1 – 5th – 1:39.712 (27 Laps)

FP2 – 6th – 1:38.508 (32 Laps)

“It was a straightforward Friday – the way you want to start a weekend really. We didn’t have any issues with the car and we were able to do a good amount of mileage. We tried some different things with our set-up this afternoon so the job tonight will be to try and understand the best direction to take with going forward.”

“I am reasonably happy with the balance of the car but I know that we can make a few improvements tonight so we’re in a good place to start and I am optimistic for tomorrow and the race on Sunday.”

Sergio Perez

FP1 – Did Not Take Part

FP2 – 7th – 1:38.568 (31 Laps)

“I was only in the car this afternoon but I got up to speed very quickly and I am quite happy with my laps. I think we are in a good position, promising position.”

“The car feels okay and I think we have found the set-up window quite early – Nico tried a different approach to me and it should have helped the team get all the information we need to make a good decision for tomorrow.”

Alfonso Celis

FP1 – 17th – 1:41.422 (27 Laps)

FP2 – Did Not Take Part

“I am pleased about the improvement which I could see throughout the morning, especially in the slow and medium-speed corners and in the braking zones too.”

“I only had two sets of the supersoft tyres available so I had to be smart with how I use them. You never get everything out of a lap on the first attempt and by the end of the run your tyres are no longer at their best – taking this into account, I am pleased with what I achieved.”

“On a personal level, it was great to see so many Mexican fans out there in the stands. I won’t be in Mexico City next week but I was really happy to see support from my home country  – it was motivating.”

Robert Fernley – Deputy Team Principal

“We are pleased with how things went today – this morning Alfonso picked up where he left off in Monza and did a good job on this difficult and technical circuit. All the drivers were happy with the baseline balance but the conditions were very windy which added an extra challenge for the settings.”

“Overall we’ve made a solid start and I believe that we are in good shape heading into the weekend.”

United States Grand Prix Practices – Red Bull Racing F1

Daniel Ricciardo

FP1 – 7th – 1:39.963 (26 Laps)

FP2 – 2nd – 1:37.552 (33 Laps)

“I’m happy with today. This morning was solid and the long run pace was good. We made a few changes in between the two sessions and look pretty good for now, hopefully we can stay like that.”

“Sunday is going to be a fun race, it’s only Friday though so let’s see what everyone is doing tomorrow but it’s a nice start to the weekend. I don’t think we’ve got hours of work ahead of us, just a little bit of fine tuning as always but we don’t have to search too far at the moment.”

Max Verstappen

FP1 – 3rd – 1:39.379 (28 Laps)

FP2 – 5th – 1:38.258 (27 Laps)

“We tried some different set-ups from FP1 and FP2 to try and find a strong feeling with the car, In the end we found a good one for the long funds and on the soft tyres but we still need to improve on the short run pace.”

“I’m quite confident that we can do that tomorrow – we got some good data from the short runs but struggled to find a clean lap. We changed the set-up during FP2 in order to improve some issues which is why my car was worked on for a while.”

“The long run pace seemed good, I had a Ferrari in front of me and I was catching it so I think that is a positive sign.”
