Formula 1 Blog – Red Bull Austrian Qualifying Report
It was a wonderful qualifying session earlier today with a few surprise results thrown in the mix too making it a great show for the fans.
Overall, it’s not a bad result for the team however it could have been better for the Red Bull Racing team but what counts is the race tomorrow, the Austrian Grand Prix.
Below you can see all the latest from the team including both drivers’ reactions after their qualifying session, what they thought, what they could have done and how they’ll be preparing for the race tomorrow.

Red Bull Austrian Qualifying Report – Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo – Red Bull Racing
Qualified – Position 7th – 1:09.980 min
“It was quite fun coming into Q3 and knowing that it was going to be wet. I like it when you have to adapt quite quickly, it makes things a lot more fun.”
“We got out on the intermediates and started off with pretty good race pace and I was happy but I knew that the circuit was going to dry by the end of the session and the slick tyres were essentially going to be better.“
“In hindsight, I would have liked to have come in a little bit earlier and had at least two laps on the slick tyre so that’s probably where we ended up missing out on getting those few positions.“
“I think I’ll start from fifth now from some of the penalties which is alright and we did well in Q2. We got through on the super softs and hopefully that pays dividends tomorrow and we can be closer to our rivals and go for a good race.“
- Starting grid position to be determined following steward ruling.

Red Bull Austrian Qualifying Report – Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen – Red Bull Racing
Qualified – Position 9th – 1:07.761 mins
“The conditions today meant we had to switch from dry to wet and then back to dry tyres which made it quite interesting.“
“We were out too early and of course everyone goes faster at the end of the session. I passed the line with 50 seconds to go which meant everyone had time on a drier track.”
“It’s difficult to say where we could have been, the pace was good overall but we start too far back.”
“We made a good call with the tyres in Q2 so we will be starting the race tomorrow on the super softs which should be good so we will see how we go.“
” I said about the kerbs causing problems yesterday and I think my point was proven again today. Daniil had quite a big crash earlier on and not many people agreed with me yesterday but I think they could find out for themselves.“
- Starting grid position to be determine following Steward ruling.

Red Bull Austrian Qualifying Report – Team Principal
Christian Horner – Team Principal, Red Bull Racing
“ Variable conditions in Q3 made for a very exciting finish in toddy’s qualifying but it creates a situation where you are never really certain of your final position.“
“With hindsight, it would have been better to allow for two laps on the slick tyres and with that in mind we don’t feel our positions on the grid for tomorrow’s grand prix reflect our real ability this year at the Red Bull ring.“
“We started on the intermediates but in the knowledge that we would need to change them however not knowing when.“
“Overall, a positive Q2 and we hope to better capitalise on the expected changeable conditions tomorrow – both drivers are itching to put in a good performance tomorrow in front of the Austrian crowd at our home race.“
We still have lots to cover on the blog ahead of tomorrow’s race, the Austrian Grand Prix! It looks like it’s going to be a good race and we still have rulings from the Stewards and places to be confirmed so we could still see a change in the driver line-up ahead of the race tomorrow.
