Weather For Qualifying – Sunny/Overcast & Rain
It was a thrilling qualifying session today ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix but it was a disappointing afternoon for the Sauber F1 team with their drivers, Marcus Ericsson in P21 and Felipe Nasr in P22.
The team will be looking at their data and figuring out the best way to go for tomorrow’s race.
The track temperatures went up to 54 degrees however both drivers found it difficult to get the tyres to work for them during their qualifying sessions as the Austrian Circuit in Spielberg.

Sauber Austrian Qualifying Report – Marcus Ericsson

FP3 – 20th – 1:09:137 – 25 Laps
Qualifying – 21st in Q1 – 1:08.418 min
“It was a tough qualifying session for us. It didn’t start too badly for me as I had a good feeling on my first set of ultrasoft tyres and I managed to set a decent time too.“
“My first lap on the second set of ultrasoft tyre was not ideal and on my second try the red flag came out. At the end of Q1 I got the chance to do another lap but then the yellow flags were being waved so I couldn’t finish the run properly.“
“Overall, it was a bit unfortunate and tomorrow will be difficult but we need to stay focused and try to fight back from where we are.“

FP3 – 21st – 1:09.557 min – 20 Laps
Qualifying – 22nd in Q1 – 1:08.446 min
“It was a difficult qualifying, the ultrasoft tyres did not work out as expected. I was struggling a lot with grip for the whole lap. I then went out on the supersoft tyres at the end of Q1 and I was quicker on the harder compound.“
“We will have to understand why that was the case and tomorrow is another day.”
“Starting from the back of the field means that we have to try something different. It will definitely be a tough race but the weather can also come into play if it rains so will see.“
