Ferrari “Looking Around”
For Ferrari – 2016 wasn’t their finest year by any means.
It looked like they had taken a huge leap forward in 2015 (Vettel won 3 races) and 2 steps backwards for the 2016 season but the final race in Abu Dhabi has given them the motivation they need for the 2017 season.
Speaking at the annual Christmas lunch – Marchionne has made it perfectly clear that the goals set were not achieved in the 2016 Formula 1 season and it was now time for the team to give their drivers are more competitive car – adding that Vettel needed to play his part too….
“We need to give a winning car to Sebastian (Vettel) and give him a more comfortable position to drive how he knows to do. He has to not be nervous like in Mexico but he has apologised for that.“
“He need to only be focused and drive his best. He was in the simulator yesterday and he’s pushing hard. He has to drive like in Abu Dhabi – a fantastic race.“
Both Ferrari drivers have contracts until the end of 2017 – Raikkonen’s contract got renewed last year and is a yearly contract with Marchionne saying the following – “I don’t know what Kimi would like to do after 2017, of course we are looking around but we also have some interesting young drivers.“
Let’s see what Ferrari can do over this break for the 2017 season….
