Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction

What a race we had today, after the summer-break we returned to the remainder of the season with a thrilling race for the Belgian Grand Prix earlier today and below you’ll be able to see all the latest from teams, drivers and of course reaction for all the happenings.

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Mercedes

A stand out race for Lewis Hamilton, the world championship leader started from the back of the grid (alongside Alonso) and made his way through the pack.

Avoiding accidents and incidents ahead, looking after his tyres and generally getting the job done.

After several pit stops and tyre changes, the driver finished in third place – two places behind his team-mate who won the race.

A wonderful race for Lewis Hamilton overall, especially when starting from the back of the grid.

Nico Rosberg started the race from pole position and kept his place throughout the race – staying ahead of everyone else, he managed his tyres and brought the car home.

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Red Bull

Daniel Ricciardo started the race behind his team-mate and whilst he drove well, he was constantly being told to either ‘nurse your tyres’ or to ‘push more‘ in order to open the gap from Hamilton in third.

Staying calm and relaxed, the Red Bull driver brought the car home in 2nd place – another win for him and a boost for his confidence going through to Monza!

Verstappen on the other hand started off above his team-mate however a clash between him and the two Ferrari’s saw him being caught up with damage to his front wing and car.

Coming in for a tyre-change and nose change, the race wasn’t going the way Max Verstappen had hoped.

Begian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Ferrari

The two Ferrari’s started off well however at the first corner there was a ricochet effect between Vettel, Raikkonen and Verstappen.

Vettel on the outer part of the circuit turned into the corner, closing the gap too far to Raikkonen and resulted in a slight touch of tyres (and car) between the team-mates.

This pushed Raikkonen into Verstappen who was going for the inside line (some people disputing if he should have been there) causing a little accident which could have been avoided.

Vettel – “It’s easy to look at things in hindsight, the incident affected both our cars.

Raikkonen pushed on and drove as far as his car would let him, there was a few complications throughout the race and another incident between him and Verstappen like we saw a few races ago and during the German Grand Prix.

Raikkonen radioed his team to say “what the **** is he doing, he keeps moving” referring to an aggressive Verstappen with his defending moves.

A wonderful result for both drivers coming in P4 and P5.

Hulkenberg – “Today was a massive result for the team and I’m feeling very happy with fourth place. There were some unusual circumstances but we were there to take the opportunities and pick up some very important points.

There was a battle with Fernando Alonso coming out of the pit lane but we managed to stay ahead in fourth position.

Perez – “It’s been a great day for the team and I am very pleased to finish fifth but it was quite a tough race from the start. I chose a wide line going into turn one but I had to go for the outside to avoid the first corner accident.

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Williams

Finishing in 8th (Bottas) and 10th (Massa) – both drivers had a great race, bringing the cars home along with points for the team.

Both drivers handled their tyre pressures and took advantage of things as they happened during the Belgian Grand Prix – Massa was involved in a few battles throughout the race, regaining places and pushing drivers to the limit.

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – McLaren

It was a bittersweet result for the McLaren team today – Wehrlein went into the back of Jenson Button ending both of their races however Alonso started from the back of the grid (alongside Hamilton) and made his way through the grid to finish in P7.

A wonderful result for the team and great to see the team working the new upgrade after the summer break!

Alonso – “We are going in the right direction.

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Haas F1

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Renault

The race was red-flagged with Kevin Magnussen going right into the tyre barrier – luckily, the driver got out of the car and was seen to be helped by the Marshalls as he walked away from the wreckage which was his car – suffering with a limp as he made his way to the medical centre.

Medical Centre reported that Magnussen was well and feeling bruised, tired and battered and also suffering with an injury to his left ankle after the impact.

His team-mate Palmer finished the Belgian Grand Prix in 15th place after a frustrating race as he “could have done better when reflecting on the weekend.” The Renault driver said after the race.

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Sauber F1

A disappointing start to the second half of the season for the team – Nasr had a good start to the Belgian Grand Prix however he had to pit after the first lap due to a tyre puncture.

Nasr – “It was a disappointing race, I had a good start and was able to make up some positions running temporarily in P11. I got a puncture and had to pit early so compromised the whole race.

Marcus Ericsson on the other hand started his race from the pit lane however he had to retire due to gearbox issues.

Ericsson – “It was a tough day. When I went out to the starting grid, we identified issues with the cooling system so we had to make some adjustments. This meant I had to start the race from the pit-lane. It was a good first lap and I was able to catch the group but suddenly lost sixth gear on lap 3 and had to retire.”

Belgian Grand Prix Race Report and Reaction – Manor F1

A wonderful debut for Esteban Ocon who has replied Rio Haryanto in Formula 1 – he finished his race in 16th but says he was “I’m proud to have lined up on the grid in an F1 race and taken the chequered flag”

His team-mate Wehrlein went into the back of Jenson Button’s car during the start of the race, ending both of their races.
