Jenson Button Austrian Grand Prix – Starting Race From Third

What a qualifying session we had today in Spielberg! Wonderful for the fans at home and at the circuit!

I’d personally hoped for a few surprise results however I didn’t expect to see Jenson Button qualifying in fifth (and due to penalties) then moving up the grid to start his race from third place.

It’s been a long time coming for the McLaren-Honda team and whilst I don’t think we should be looking at this result as something that’s going to become the norm, I do think that this will provide the whole team with much-needed motivation.

Working with the conditions and pushing his car to the limit – this is what Jenson Button had to say after his qualifying session earlier today.

Jenson Button Austrian Grand Prix – Reaction

After the qualifying session in Austria, Jenson Button spoke to the media and had this to say – “We called it right at the end, on the wets we were quick and on the dry tyres we weren’t bad either!

I was just trying to save it for the last lap and I was lucky that there were no yellow flags either. I took a lot of risks but it worked out today. A lot of the time it doesn’t and hasn’t but it did today – so I’ll take it when I can.

To be in P5 where we are right now is absolutely awesome. I think this gives everyone a little kick up the bum, including myself, and hopefully this helps us in the future too with our attitude towards racing and feeling that we can fight and be further up the grid.

A big well done to Jenson Button for the result – hopefully he can retain his place at the start and work with his team throughout the race to benefit the strategies and also work around the weather conditions to bring home the best result for himself and the team.

It would be nice to see his team-mate, Fernando Alonso make his way through the grid too.

He unfortunately had a mix up in Q2 with the tyres (using an old set) and also got caught out with the rain on the circuit not allowing him to get through to Q3.

So, overall it would be good for everyone in the McLaren-Honda team if he could get into the points too!

We have a great race ahead of us tomorrow, there’s a lot of drivers (and teams) that want to prove their point and make their way through the grid – Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Williams, Force India…. who knows what can happen!?

Make sure you keep checking back for all the latest news and information ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix tomorrow!
