Sebastian Vettel Given Penalty After Mexican Grand Prix
The last few laps of the Mexican Grand Prix proved to be the best – battles were going on everywhere but the main thing which everyone seems to be talking about is the three-way battle between Ferrari and Red Bull – drivers: Vettel, Verstappen and Ricciardo.
In a controversial win – Verstappen was given a penalty by the stewards after the race with Vettel claiming third, joining the two Mercedes drivers (Hamilton & Rosberg) on the podium.
Fast forward through the drivers press conference, the media interviews and it was off to the stewards.
Now, the news from the paddock is that Sebastian Vettel has been handed a 10-second penalty for his collision with Daniel Ricciardo on-track. Demoting him from third to fifth in the Mexican Grand Prix.
This penalty means that Ricciardo has been promoted up into 3rd place, being handed the trophy for third place which was shared across social media by Red Bull – picture below.

Both Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo were spoken to by the stewards after the race, going through the video footage and eventually the decision was made that Vettel did change direction, under-braking – a movement which is considered “abnormal”.
Not only did Vettel receive a time penalty but he was also handed another two penalty points to his race license – his sixth in the last 12 months which is now halfway to a one-race ban.
On a positive note – well done to the Red Bull team and Daniel Ricciardo for P3 and a late podium – at least they got to wear Sombrero’s!
