Red Bull Austrian Grand Prix Reaction

What a race it was today! A great result overall for the Red Bull team with Max Verstappen making the tyres work for him and bringing the car home to second place.

See what the Red Bull team and drivers had to say after the Austrian Grand Prix today starting with Max Verstappen.

It’s a great feeling to get the second Formula 1 podium of my career. For sure that was a very good race and the car was performing well today too as were the tyres.

I managed to overtake some cars at the start and had some good battles so that was really fun.

From there, I did my own race, Kimi was catching me fast but I just managed to hold him off until the end. I expected P3 but we got P2, I was surpassed but very happy to pick up another position in the last lap.”

Towards the end we had to deal with the pressure but that just means you can’t make any mistakes. The safety car definitely helped us too and allowed us to make the most of the pit stops.

We are working hard for this season and picking up podiums so it’s definitely positive when looking at 2017 and looking at Silverstone, next week – it should be good! The car usually performs better there than here so that’s another positive after a very good day.

I think for the team it was a really good day today, we didn’t expect to be on the podium here in Austria, obviously I wish that I was up there with Max too but from my side the race was a bit disappointing.

At the beginning, we seemed to get passed by other cars at Turn 8 which isn’t normal so that was definitely frustrating but then once everything settled, we just weren’t as quick.

I tried pushing on the tyres and then get what I could out of it and it seemed we could hold the pace but then everyone else was also improving and getting quicker and quickly and in the end we were just getting slower and slower.

For now I would just like to understand why that happened and look into it. If there are things I need to do to get better than I will make sure that I figure it our.

I’m glad the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone are back to back, it’s always nice when you can get back into a race straight away so hopefully SIlverstone will be better too.

We’ve got a few days to work out why I wasn’t quick today but I’m in the factory tomorrow so we’ve got time to look into it.

An action-packed Austrian Grand Prix and after making good starts, Max managed to get ahead of Daniel fairly early on.

As other cars started to pit on the ultrasofts we went for a few laps long before making a stop on to the soft tyres we had.

In cooler temperatures suddenly a one-stop became a viable option and the drivers did extremely well to start to make that happen. Running in third and fourth places for large percentages of the race.

Raikkonen managed to pass Daniel and there was nothing to lose to pit him for the ultrasofts yet in the meantime, Mercedes stopped to pit putting Max in the lead and he did what he could but the car was toothless in responding on the old tyres which were pretty much down to the canvas.

He managed to get the car home and was able to capitalise not he incident between the two Mercedes’ and take a fabulous 2nd position and our first podium in our home race.

A great grand prix and looking forward to taking the momentum to Silverstone in a weeks time.

We have more reaction coming soon to the blog from other teams including Sauber and Force India along with a few discussion posts about ‘incidents’ which occurred in the race.
