Mercedes Confirm They Are ‘Considering’ Fernando Alonso 

Only 5 days after winning the Formula 1 World Chmapionship, Nico Rosberg made the surprise announcement that he would be retiring from Formula 1. (See more here)

Since then, social media has gone crazy with rumours going left, right and centre about which driver will be replacing him – even Max Verstappen got into the mix of things, tweeting the Mercedes team and sharing amusing snaps on his twitter profile.

Toto Wolff has now revealed in an exclusive interview with Sky (click here) that “You have to consider Fernando, he is a driver that I respect a lot and he combines talent, speed and experience – it’s all there.“

The top 3 drivers at the moment are Pascal Wehrlein, Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso.

Pascal Wehrlein – Even though he has a long-term connection with the Mercedes team, he wouldn’t be in my choice of top drivers for the seat. I don’t think he’s mature enough to be at the top part of the grid and to have a team-mate like Hamilton – he could crack under the pressure. Another year or two with a lower team will be better for him to build up his experience and develop as driver.

Max Verstappen – He has proven himself this year. Right from Toro Rosso he has proven that he is a mature driver who’s willing to push things right to the limit and take risks when needed. He handles pressure and doesn’t care what people think. A world champion in the making.

Fernando Alonso – My personal choice to be Hamilton’s team-mate. Even though the two-time World Champion tends to create a team around himself, there’s no denying that he’s one of the most experienced drivers on the grid. He pushes the limits whilst respecting other drivers and takes risks where needed. The two (Hamilton and Alonso) have been team-mates before and they know how to push each other which is great for racing.
