Could Jenson Button or Felipe Massa return to Formula One?
They both said their Goodbye’s at the final race of the 2016 Formula One season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix however, with the unexpected announcement of Nico Rosberg’s retirement, things are being shaken up in the paddock.
Valtteri Bottas is now a firm favourite to replace Nico Rosberg at Mercedes – written in this post here, Mercedes HAVE approached Williams about Bottas – despite early talks being dismissed.
Toto Wolff is not only top boss at Mercedes, he’s also a part of Bottas’ management group too and therefore has a lot of input.
If Mercedes do lure Bottas away from Williams, this leaves the team with a problem as they want “an experienced driver” to balance with their new driver, Lance Stroll who’s entering his first year in the 2017 Formula 1 season.
In a twist – it seems that Williams has been in contact and opened talks with Felipe Massa about making a return to Formula One. If this does go ahead, it’ll be another shock announcement of the season!
One other report which has started to catch attention is the return of Jenson Button – he’s also being marked as a ‘potential candidate’ for the Williams team, if Bottas does make the switch to Mercedes.
Keep an eye out for all the latest!
