Mercedes Approach Valtteri BottasĀ – Williams Reject
Since the announcement of Nico Rosberg’s retirement from Formula 1, everyone has been wondering who’s going to replace the driver and become Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate for the 2017 season.
Last week, the firm favourite was Fernando Alonso – followed by Max Verstappen, Pascal Wehrlein and even Jenson Button’s name got thrown into the mix of things!
This week however, things seem to have switched round with Valtteri Bottas being amongst the favourites with Fernando Alonso and it has recently been reported that Mercedes HAVE made a move, approaching the Williams driver.
In turn, Williams have rejected offers however there have been rumoured talks this morning about the situation.
In October, Lance Stroll was announced as Valtteri Bottas’ team-mate for the Formula 1 2017 season, replacing Felipe Massa who is also retiring from the sport.
At the moment, Mercedes are in a powerful position and can change things to work in their favour – they are the engine suppliers for Williams and Toto Wolff is also a part of Bottas’ management group.
If Mercedes do in fact lure Bottas away from Williams, could this open the door for Paul Di Resta to make a return to F1?
The team want to have a balance with their drivers, one being more experienced and the other just making his start in Formula 1.
More to follow!
