EXCLUSIVE – Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen at Lake Balaton
The Red Bull Racing drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen had fun this week as they switched the track for water activities – extreme sailing to be precise!
Whilst it might not be the obvious excursion, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen were taken to the beautiful Lake Balaton to team up with the crews of the Red Bull Extreme Sailing Team.
Lake Balaton – Located around 130km South West of Budapest and the Hungaroring, Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe – the Red Bull Racing drivers arrived by helicpoter and after they had their briefing, they got kitted up before going out to scare the ducks on the famously clear waters, as you’ll be able to see in the pictures below.
Max Verstappen: “I normally like things with an engine but this is was very cool – the boats are really impressive and once you’re on the water, there are a lot of things going on. I learned a lot from Roman and from Hans-Peter, I think I need a few more lessons to be competitive but the first day was a good start.”
Daniel Ricciardo: ” I think we won so I went for a swim and celebrated – I think the guys on the boat 33 lacked morale and energy, they didn’t have the right crew to win! I haven’t done anything like this before, I mean, I’ve sailed one or two times at school in the little boats so it was a new experience.”
“The boats are impressive and the Red Bull Extreme Sailing team were cool guys, really helpful. Apparently, we nearly capsized but they mad eye feel safe so I didn’t think much of it. It was all pretty hectic but we just gone given one job at a time – I found myself on the winch most of the time but I can lift my arms again now, so – it’s alright.”
Hans-Peter Steinacher and Roman Hagana are double Olympic sailing Gold medallists so the Red Bull Racing drivers were both in good hands.
