Carlos Sainz Extends Contract With Toro Rosso For 2017 

Carlos Sainz is a driver to keep an eye-out for, this year he’s been making his name by bringing home the results and in turn getting other teams talking about him with his performances throughout the season, so far.

Speaking a few weeks ago, the Spanish driver said he would like to remain within the Red Bull family and hopefully win his first championship with them saying he ‘owes them‘ for helping him with the start of his career and allowing him to enter the world of Formula 1.

Today, it was announced that the option was taken to extend Sainz’s contract through to next season – extending the contract for 2017 meaning he will be driving for Toro Rosso for the third year in a row.

A couple of weeks prior to the announcement, the Toro Rosso team principal, Franz Tost said that he ‘expected Sainz’s future to be resolved’ in the coming weeks given the growing interest in the driver this year.

Speaking after the announcement was made, Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner, spoke out and said the following – ‘We took up the option he made earlier this year, he is committed to Red Bull for an extra 12 months.‘

‘As with all the drivers, they are contracted to Red Bull Racing and then we have the ability to place drivers where we want and where we feel suits them. We had until the end of the year to take up the option and we chose to do it early, putting his mind at rest and letting him focus for the season.‘

‘We are definitely not short of talent in our stable and we’re not set at Red Bull Racing for the next two and a half years.‘

Well done to Carlos Sainz and the Toro Rosso team for extending his contract – there’s so much more potential to be given from Sainz and he’s definitely a driver to keep an eye on – now and in the future too…
