RedBull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo has spoken out after the Spanish Grand Prix – Read More Here….
After driving a brilliant race and just missing out on the podium, RedBull driver, Daniel Ricciardo admits that he is still struggling to accept the fact he didn’t win the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend.
Starting in third place, he started off perfectly and took the race into his own hands – literally! After the Mercedes drivers came together, he was leading the race but with pit-stops and slight mis-calculations from his team he ended up behind ex team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
Challenging the Ferrari driver for a place on the podium, he suddenly suffered with another left-rear puncture (on the penultimate lap) causing him to drop positions.
This isn’t the first time the RedBull driver suffered with a puncture – the same happened in Russia where he was also leading the race through stages…
Speaking out a few days after the race, the driver said the following – “The outcome of the race was frustrating“and continued to say “Is it easy to move on? I wouldn’t say it’s easy but can you move on? Absolutely”
“It’s been a few days since the race now but I still wake up with it on my mind. It will take a bit of time”
The normally happy Ricciardo does sound slightly defeated by the latest race and one of the things which we won’t be able to understand is how these drivers think.
Racing is on their minds 24/7 – it’s something that they’ve all grown up with and it’s something which ‘in effect’ has been ‘wired’ into their minds….. racing is normality for them and winning is something that they all want!
Their mental-state should always remain positive however with all the tension, pressure from teams (and media) plus their own dreams and aspirations to always push themselves and do better can sometimes take it’s toll.
All in all, I think this makes for great racing – as does determination and wanting to prove your point!
Onwards and upwards – Monaco is the next race and perhaps one of the most glamourous events all year! 🙂
