Verstappen and Raikkonen Clash

At the Hungarian Grand Prix we saw Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen battling throughout the race and while we all love seeing a battle – your heart sinks slightly when two drivers come together.

The end result could have been a lot worse however most damage was for Raikkonen who suffered with damage to his front wing.

Since then, the Red Bull driver has been heavily criticised for his move with people suggesting he was ‘too aggressive’ and others saying he was ‘simply racing’.

After the contact and after the race, we saw that Raikkonen was rather irritated by the whole situation, immediately radioing through to his team to tell them about Verstappens’ moves and here’s what he had to say after the race.

Raikkonen – “It’s pointless to have rules if they don’t apply for everyone all the time. For all the people.

For me, he moved once to right and I decide to go left but once the other guy moves back, I did everything I could to avoid any contact.

Once I decided to go somewhere, you cannot just come there. It is good that I managed to somehow half miss him. It’s not my decision whether or not it was correct. I’ve seen people penalised for much less.

I’m disappointed because I couldn’t get past him and to get to the rest, the car was behaving well and we had good speed.

No matter the situation, more often than not, teams will stick by their drivers and in this case, Red Bull did just that.

Verstappen spoke about the incident after the race and remains adamant that he shouldn’t be punished for racing.

Verstappen – “I think everything was fair and I only moved once. It would be very strange to get penalised for that I think. Yes, I could see him coming and he was very optimistic to drive into the inside so I went to the inside and he had to brake.

He locked up and hit the rear of my car or my tyre, I don’t know but that’s what can happen – I was just doing my race.

Lots more coming soon!
