Sauber Reveal 2017 Formula 1 Car

Sauber have kick-started the 2017 Formula 1 car launch week by revealing the first images of their 2017 F1 Car.

The C36 looks a lot more polished and ‘ready’ for the 2017 season, featuring a contrasting blue and white colour theme – complete with a gold-coloured front wing.

A New Car

With a new technical director arriving at the factory, the swiss-based team worked on their car – pushing the limits.

The concept of the new car was focused on reducing the drag coefficient (due to the wider tyres) to a minimum as well as achieving a significant weight reduction.

The aero concept includes the optimisation of the front and rear wings and the underfloor. The radiator, the side pods and the bodywork have all been designed and worked on to be as slim as possible.

Jörg Zander explains – “We have put a greater emphasis on aerodynamic stability as opposed to maximising the downforce.

New Regulations

The Sauber C36 is now wider and lower – with the wider tyres making the car look a lot more ‘muscular’ than last year’s model.

Here are the tyre differences from last year:

  • Front Tyres – From 245mm to 305mm
  • Rear Tyres – From 325mm to 405mm

Overall, the Sauber C36 has been re-designed from scratch – there is not a single part that could be adopted from last year’s car says Jorg Zander.

However – Sauber will be starting the new 2017 formula 1 season using a 2016 Ferrari engine.

The Formula 1 Girl 🙂
