Sauber Preview – Formula One Monaco Grand Prix 2016
It’s back! The most glamourous race of the year is nearly here – it’s the one and only, Monaco Grand Prix!
I can’t believe how quickly time is flying by – can you believe that we’re already in the 6th round of the Formula One season!?
Monaco is where street racing all started, it’s the most renowned and most-loved track by fans of the sport, drivers and celebrities too….
Sauber drivers, Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr are both looking forward to the race and for the first time this season, we’ll be seeing the Ultrasoft Tyres which are being made available for the Monaco Grand Prix.
(See driver tyre selections here)
Here’s what the Sauber team-mates had to say ahead of the weekend….
Marcus Ericsson (Car Number, 9)
“Racing in Monte Carlo has a long tradition which makes it one of the most remarkable races in the Formula One season.“
“The track is a lot of fun to drive but at the same time, it’s also very challenging – A little mistake can mean ending up in the barriers and it’s all about very precise driving and having the confidence in the car to use every centimetre of the track.“
“I cannot wait to race in Monaco, the atmosphere around the circuit makes it the highlight of the season.”
Felipe Nasr (Car Number, 12)
“The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the best races on the calendar. The track on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo is a real challenge for us, the drivers as well as the car.”
“There’s a fine line between driving the perfect lap and pushing the car to the limit.”
“I really like the racing as the atmosphere is also very special and last year I had a great race scoring points by finishing in P9.”
“I hope we will have a positive year, this year too.”
Here are some track facts for you F1 lovers! 🙂
Monaco Track Facts
The Monaco Grand Prix on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo is fascinating and at the same time challenging. In order to use the last centimetres between the barriers, the drivers need to have a very precise and smooth car.
It is almost impossible to overtake on this track, therefore the grid position is normally relevant as part of the race result.
Thank you to the Sauber F1 team for providing the driver interviews ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix – wishing you all well and looking forward to the race! 🙂
