Sauber Formula 1 Austrian Practice Session
Today we kicked off the practice sessions ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend. With heavy rain in the first opening minutes of the Austrian Free Practice 2 Session, it compromised the Sauber F1 teams programme however both their drivers, Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasra managed to do a lot of miles brining home the results needed by the team.
The team will then go over all the information about the new tarmac on the track and tyre behaviour.
Sauber Formula 1 Austrian Practice Session – Marcus Ericsson
Marcus Ericsson – Car 9
1st Practice – 18th – 1:09.929 min (35 laps)
2nd Practice – 19th – 1:10.140 min (19 laps)
‘It was a decent day today. It’s Friday so we needed to run as many laps as possible in both practice sessions. The track is quite different with the new surface as well as the new kerbs and there was a lot to learn today too.’
‘We were able to test three different compounds – the soft, the supersoft and ultrasoft tyres so it’s good to see all the steps between them and how to benefit.’
‘In FP2 it wasn’t ideal with the rain interrupting our programme, nevertheless we managed to gather some date today and I’m sure that we can optimise things for tomorrow.‘

Felipe Nasr – Car 12
1st Practice – 20th – 1:10.314 min (26 laps)
2nd Practice – 21th – 1:10:444 min (22 laps)
‘In FP1 we were able to cover decent milage and I was able to see how the car behaves on the new surface using the soft and supersoft tyres.’
‘It’s important to understand the new tarmac and how much it’s affecting the tyres and how we can get over that. In terms of the car setup, I am satisfied with the balance so far.‘
‘In FP2 the heavy rain did compromise our programme and run as we could not do high-fuel runs as we had planned so it’s a bit unknown for us but other teams are compromised as well and I think we will have a busy FP3 session ahead.‘
