Russian Grand Prix Preview – Red Bull Racing

The 2017 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be pretty good and even though the Red Bull Racing team are slightly behind where we expected, don’t discount them! Once things fall into place for the team – it works.

Here’s a little post for the Russian Grand Prix Preview thanks to the Red Bull Racing team and drivers.

“The Sochi Autodrom is a pretty busy track – there is not much room to rest, it keeps you thinking”

“Now that we’ve been to the track a few times – I think the tarmac will be better. It’s a bit like Austin in the first few years when it took a while to bed in.”

“I expect this year for the track to be grippy and with these cars, it should be quite fast! I would say that it’s going to be more enjoyable than it has been so I’m looking forward to that.”

“It’s also a pretty busy track – there isn’t much room to rest.”

“There is a long straight but other than that, there is quite a bit going on – it keeps you thinking!”

“Some parts of the track remind me a bit of India, it’s kind of flat and you can take curbs quite easily – there is also a lot of third and fourth gear corners and they layout has definitely grown on me since we started racing there.”

“We’re also going there a bit later this year so there is a chance of it being warmer than in previous years – it’s a pretty cool place and it’s near the ocean too. Our hotel is right next to it.”

“I’ve never gone into the water though because it’s too cold for me.”

“It’s an interesting track, in the middle of the Olympic Park which adds a special atmosphere”

“It’s an interesting track and it has a lot of long straights but despite that fact, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso have actually done pretty well on the track in the past.”

“It’s still a very special track, it’s still new and it’s in the middle of the Olympic Park and that gives it a special atmosphere.”

“The corners are mostly 90 degreed which you normally never experience and it’s quite a flat track with not a lot of elevation changes and some difficult braking zones. It’s always challenging to come from high speed into a low speed corner and achieve the best out of it in braking.”

“I’m definitely looking forward to going back there and having a good race.”

“Last year, I visited the city centre in Sochi and it was pretty interesting – I found a really nice restaurant and I’ll definitely be going there this year – the name, that’s a secret for now though.”

Daniel Explains…

A little insight from Daniel Ricciardo

  1. If you live under the same roof as Russians, you would be advised NOT to take the trash out at night. This is believed to bring bad luck onto the house.
  2. If a bird decides to do it’s business on you OR if you step in dog dirt – don’t be in a rush to curse your fate! These are ones of great financial success!
  3. Russians believe that you must not place empty bottles on the table – these are bad omens and a financial loss or tears.
  4. In ancient Russia, it was usually the old maid, poor relatives and dependants who took the corner seats at the table. An idea developed that if a girl sits at the corner – she will not marry for seven years.
  5. If a spider appears on your clothes – don’t brush it off straight away. This brings you luck.

More coming soon!

Thank you to Red Bull Racing for the information and images.

A lot of people have said that – I didn’t like it but it’s a track I’m getting used to but I do agree, there isn’t a lot of overtaking!
