Pierre Gasly Replaces Daniil Kvyat For Malaysian Grand Prix

This isn’t the biggest shock in the world of Formula 1 as we all expected Pierre Gasly to make his way into Formula 1 whether it was this season, or next season.

After a disappointing 2017 for Daniil Kvyat (having scored just 4 points) – he is set to be replaced by Pierre Gasly for the Malaysian Grand Prix this week making it the 21-year-old’s debut in the sport.

Things started to fall apart for Daniil Kvyat last season when he was demoted from Red Bull Racing back to Toro Rosso after crashing into Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel – within 2 corners at the Russian Grand Prix, his home Grand Prix.

Franz Tost (Toro Rosso Team Principal) said the following – “For a variety of reasons, some of them due to technical problems, but others being mistakes of his own making – Daniil Kvyat has not shown his true potential so far this year and this is why we are standing him down for the next races.

The driver switch will also give us the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding our 2018 driver lineup choices.

By saying “next races” it looks like Pierre Gasly will be remaining with the team for the Japanese Grand Prix which is one week after the Malaysian Grand Prix with Daniil Kvyat making a return to Austin – as things currently stand.

Pierre Gasly – “This is a great opportunity for me, I feel ready – as ready as I can be having had to be prepared for anything in my role as Red Bull Racing’s third driver this year.

I will do my best to perform well with Toro Rosso during the coming races.

There’s lots more coming soon!
