McLaren Eric Boullier – Vandoorne and Alonso will be “sitting ducks”

Just when you though that things couldn’t get any worse for McLaren, somehow they do and things are not looking great for the team with the Chinese Grand Prix taking place this weekend.

It’s safe to say that McLaren have braced themselves for the Chinese Grand Prix with Eric Boullier saying – “the long straights will likely expose the weaknesses in our package – if so, Vandoorne and Alonso will be almost-literal sitting ducks.

In Australia, despite Fernando Alonso having to retire due to a failure, McLaren actually performed better than they expected and even though Stoffel Vandoorne was the last driver to cross the finish line – many believed he wouldn’t even reach that point.

Speaking to the media, this is what Alonso had to say about the car in it’s current state and the situation with McLaren-Honda.

Alonso – “In normal conditions, on a normal circuit – we should be last and second last.”

This really isn’t something that you should be hearing at the start of the season – as we’ve mentioned time and time again, last year McLaren looked like they were taking a step in the right direction and this year, it really does look like they’ve taken not 1, not 2 but 10 steps back and it really is a shame to see…

Since the Australian Grand Prix however, McLaren have put the pressure on Honda and it seems to have gotten through to them with Honda saying that they have “made changes to their F1 personnel and structure“.

However you won’t see changes quickly – “we don’t disclose details but we have modified the organisation and member but when you make changes it affects the longer term – not one or two weeks time.

We have lots more coming soon ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend so make sure you keep checking back for the latest.
