Qualifying 2020 Turkish Grand Prix – Max Verstappen: “first time this year, I sit here upset…”
The weekend looked positive for the Red Bull Racing team, primarily Max Verstappen however, there was a twist that no one could have predicted at the start of Qualifying.
Speaking to the media after qualifying, the driver didn’t hold back showing his frustration from the afternoon.
Max Verstappen Interview – 2020 Turkish Grand Prix Qualifying
Max Verstappen: “I think this is the first time this year, I sit here upset. I think it says it all.”
“It was all going quite well on the wet tyres but already, in Q1, when I tried to go onto the inters, they were not working well at all, compared to other people on the inters (intermediate) around me.”
“So, I was in Q3 and not very sure to go on to the inters because I felt really comfortable on the extreme (wet) tyres. I think the track was definitely leaning towards intermediates, for me, it just felt so poor….”
“I think that if we had stayed out on the wets, I could have done the same lap time – clearly, something was not working for us today on that tyre.”
For the race, we wont be seeing Mercedes starting within the top 5 – something we’re not used to. Lewis Hamilton will be starting from P6 and Valtteri Bottas will be starting from P9 so we’ve definitely got a good race on our hands.
We’re set for an exciting race tomorrow, especially the start!
