Manor F1 Team Cease Trading

As reported in this post, Manor Racing have been facing difficulties over the past few weeks, entering administration however after failing to find a buyer – the Manor F1 team cease trading.

The 212 staff members who worked at the team’s factory were sent home yesterday with the most of them expecting to be made redundant in the next week – being paid for January.

With different talks and negotiations in the past few weeks, no deal was made to save the team from a collapse and the statement released said the following – “It is deeply regrettable that the team has had to cease trading and close it’s doors. Manor is a great name in British motorsport and the team has achieved a great deal over the past two years.

After the news broke, Sky Sport’s Martin Brundle tweeted the following – “Very sad news, 20 cars on 2017 grid. There’s enough F1 money around for 24/26 healthy cars, the best drivers and 18/20 successful races.

When you consider the money that’s involved in Formula 1, it really is a shame that there is still unequal distribution of money and I hope that this is something that will be looked at in order to allow some of the smaller teams a chance.

In 2015, Formula 1 brought in around $2 billion yet Ferrari, who finished 2nd in the Constructors’ Championship, received $21 million in prize money – more than any of the other teams.

It’s a shame that teams are left like this, there should be equal distribution of the money as this would allow the back teams a bit more of a change to challenge other cars and teams competitively, this is what we want to see!

This is a shame, we need small teams in the sport!
