Jenson Button – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix “I think of this as my last race”
Earlier this year Jenson Button announced that he would be taking some time away from F1, insisting that was not retiring however ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend, the McLaren driver spoke to the media.
Jenson Button – “I’m going into this weekend and I think of this as my last race. I think that’s the best way to be. At this moment in time, I don’t want to be racing in F1 past this race and that was the whole idea.”
“So, I think of this as my last race and hopefully everyone else does as well. I don’t want to go in thinking it isn’t my last and it is my last. It is true that I have a contract for 2018 but at this moment in time – I’m not going to be racing in 2018.”
“The whole idea about having a contract is that in three months’ time – when I have eaten myself stupid and thinking of things to do in future, maybe I realise that I need F1 back in my life but at this moment in time – it’s not the case and this is my last race.”
“I raced with two of the teams which I dreamt of racing with as a kid – Williams and McLaren. When I did win the world championship, it was with a privateer team – Brawn, which I actually think is pretty special.”
“Obviously a very memorable year in my life and in the future, it’s something which I’ll hopefully be telling my Grandkids about – that from nothing, we ended up winning the World Championship.”
Jenson Button is considered as one of the most experienced drivers and is respected by many – with a career including 15 wins, 50 podiums and 1 world championship crown. His final Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi will be his 305th Grand Prix.
Wishing him all the very best for his final race this weekend and for his future…
