Sauber F1 – Monaco Grand Prix Team and Driver Reactions – See all the latest from the Sauber team after the Monaco Grand Prix.
With both Sauber drivers coming together and ending both their races – see what they had to say along with team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn.
Marcus Ericsson – Result: DNF
“A very disappointing end to the race. We had taken a bit of a gamble so I was first t pit for the slicks. It worked out but it wasn’t ideal as I was out by the blue flags.”
“I had to go off-line and let other drivers pass which meant I struggled with the temperature in the tyres. I caught Felipe (Nasr) but got stuck behind him and I was told that Felipe received a call via the radio.”
“I saw a gap and tried to overtake but we all saw what happened. It’s a difficult situation for us and it’s even more important to stick together as a team in these times.”
“I apologise and I’m sure that this will not happen again the the future.”
Felipe Nasr – Results: DNF
“It’s a shame that neither of us finished the race. This is the worst scenario that can happen for us a team.“
“Marcus and I were on different strategies, so his second pit stop was earlier than mine. My tyres started to get up to temperature and I was catching the cars in front.”
“For me, it wasn’t the right time to swap positions and suddenly in Rascasse, I felt my car being hit.”
“It’s disappointing for everyone, as a whole the team works very hard and I apologise for what happened.”
Monisha Kaltenborn – Team Principal
“It’s unacceptable behaviour by both drivers. Today the work of the whole team ended in a collision. Marcus and Felipe both know how much work is put into every single race weekend and they have the responsibility to make it to the end of the race.”
“Our decision was based on the date from both cars and after evaluating the situation it was important to bring the fastest car to the front.”
“We clarified the situation between both drivers internally and both drivers are aware of their responsibilities such as an incident like this will not happen again.”
“I’d also like to say a word to our previous driver, Sergio Perez and Force India – Congratulations on the third place in Monaco”
Despite the drivers coming together during the race, Monisha, although unhappy, managed to congratulate Sergio Perez on his win – I think that’s a nice touch and it’s lovely to see ex-bosses or teams supporting one another as people progress in their careers and in the sport.
