Alonso McLaren: The End
It was recently announced that Fernando Alonso and McLaren have formally ended their partnership – with the Spanish driver now no longer an ambassador for the team.
As we all saw, Alonso returned to the team in 2015 for what can only be described as a problematic time for the driver.
Though many changes were made within the team, they simply couldn’t provide a decent car in order to push and battle with the pack.
Come to 2018 and Fernando Alonso announced his intention to “try other things” whilst remaining as an ambassador for the team.
Since then, we have seen him return for tyre testing along with taking part in McLaren’s Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24 Hours where he won with Toyota.
Alonso has always shown interest and potential in a comeback to Formula 1 and whilst it won’t be happening in 2020, there are some rumours making the rounds for 2021 where we’ll be seeing big changes.
Take a look at what McLaren had to say about the ending of the partnership to Autosport.
McLaren: “Fernando is a world class competitor and we would like to wish him all the best for the future. Whilst our relationship has come to a natural conclusion, he will always remain a part of the McLaren family.”
In terms of McLaren, if we take a little look at their driver lineup of Carlos Sainz Jr and Lando Norris, it’s one that’s proving to work well for the team.
Having an overall great year in 2019, with the team and car showing good signs of progress.
