Formula 1 News – Sebastian Vettel Gets Five-Place Grid Penalty ahead of this weekend’s Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix 2016
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has been given a five-place grid penalty after the team was forced to change his gearbox when his car came to a halt during practice two at the Sochi Circuit yesterday.
A spokesperson for Ferrari stated to the media that the gearbox was not damaged on Friday but due to Vettel’s collision in China with his team-mate, Raikkonen, the team had known about an ‘issue‘ before their arrival in Sochi.
Why didn’t they change the gearbox before? The team decided to see if they could do a successful run with the current gearbox for the whole weekend however it was ended during practice two with an ‘unrelated electrical fault‘ making his car shut down – on track.
With his five-place gird penalty, Sebastian Vettel will not start this weekend’s race any higher that sixth.
Lewis Hamilton will also have a new gearbox for his race ahead of the Russian Grand Prix 2016 however he won’t be facing a grid penalty.
Since he already changed his gearbox in the pervious race, he’s now entitled to use a new/fresh one for the next six race ahead.
More to come soon…..
