Verstappen – “I’m happy that it’s raining so lets see what we can do in the race. I think it’s going to be an interesting race, we will see what’s going to happen.“
Rosberg – “I’m well aware of the sport, it’s so unpredictable and anything can happen at any moment so I don’t think about anything. I just focus on the weekend and see what happens.“
Toto Wolff – “Charlie will have the right call about the safety car – if it’s unsafe then probably a safety car will be the right thing to do. I’m not biased about wanting to have a safety car to have our cars in the front row to go. The cars are free to race.“
Pit Lane Now OPEN – Brazil Grand Prix LIVE
Cars are now making their way onto the grid.
Making his way round the track – Romain Grosjean has skidded and gone off-track. At the moment it looks like he is out of the race….
There’s some talk about a safety car start due to the heavy rainfall however a lot of people (including drivers) don’t want a safety car start to have a proper race.
Verstappen – “Grosjean has crashed out already before the start. The main thing for the beginning is safety. I would call for a safety car at the beginning but we will see what they will do. There’s a lot of water.“
Lauda – “For the front it’s difficult, it’s wet. The tiniest mistake and you throw everything away – it’s simple. I think a standing start is better.“
The start is being delayed by 10 minutes.
The will be starting behind the safety car. Waiting for standing water to drain round certain corners – the rain has started to ease off slightly but the conditions are still horrible.
Dark clouds and rain.
Rosberg on the team radio asking about brake balance on ‘the other car‘.
Forecast for the start – Rain & cloud, half an hour into the race the rain will get lighter and then towards the end of the race, heavy rain again.

Verstappen gets past Raikkonen on the first corner – he’s catching up to Rosberg.

Verstappen right behind Rosberg – he has more grip and is now less cautious. Rosberg under pressure at the moment.

Hamilton now sets the fastest lap time.
Ricciardo – “OK, let me know anything that will get me out of the spray, the visibility is not good.”

Ericsson out of the race.
He spins, hits the wall losing his front wing and left tyre.
Verstappen comes into the pits

Ricciardo comes into the pits.

The track is still too wet for intermediate tyres.

Hamilton has just gone out to one of the grid girls and given her his coat – it’s nice to see behaviour like this from the drivers.

Verstappen is very close to Rosberg – he’s right behind in 3rd place.
Verstappen has overtaken Rosberg.
He is now in second place!

Ricciardo has now made his way past Sainz.
The RedBull’s are looking strong.

Hamilton leads the race.
Verstappen in second place – Rosberg in third.
Verstappen now sets the fastest lap time.
The front two are pulling away from Rosberg.

Hulkenberg makes his way up into 12th place.
Bottas in 11th.
Hamilton leading the race and setting fast lap times.
Vettel makes his way up into 9th place.

Rosberg losing time to the front two (Hamilton and Verstappen) – it’s still looking like a full points race.

Button – “I just can’t get the tyres working.“

Verstappen skids yet manages to keep his car away from the barrier – Rosberg catches up to him but is still behind.

Ricciardo comes into the pits.
He’s going onto the intermediate tyres and at the same time serves his five second penalty.
Team to Perez – “Checo we’re expecting heavier rain in five minutes.”
Not a good sign for Ricciardo who’s just gone onto the intermediates.

Vettel makes his way past Alonso.
Alonso goes off-track and rejoins the track but is behind the Ferrari driver.
Hamilton sets a fastest lap time.
Lap 44
Ricciardo now sets a fastest lap time.
RedBull are now brining Verstappen in – he’s changing onto the intermediate tyres like his team-mate.
Rosberg in second place again followed by Perez.
Verstappen drops two-places.
Lap 45
Vettel makes his way past Nasr – he’s up into 6th place.
Button complaining that he “cannot drive on these tyres“
He’s now coming into the pits.
Rosberg loses time – he went wide.

Team to Hamilton – “Rosberg had a little spin, this is just a little caution.“

Massa is out of the Brazilian Grand Prix – the safety car is back out.
Massa is welcomed back into the pits by his family and team – other teams lined up in the pit lane to clap and cheer him on for his final home race.

Ricciardo comes into the pits to go back onto wets.
Hamilton – “I’m struggling to keep temperature in these tyres.”
The weather is now getting worse again – heavy rain.

No half points in the race.

Verstappen now comes into the pits to go back onto the wet tyres.
Safety car still will come out at the end of this lap.
The race has now restarted – again. He has a good getaway. Rosberg in second.
Perez in third .

Alonso spins and ends up behind his team-mate.
Vettel makes his way past Nasr and is up into 5th place.

Verstappen makes his way past Bottas and is up into 11th place after his pit-stop.

Verstappen now makes his way past Ricciardo, he’s up into 10th place and getting close to Kvyat in 9th.
Lap 60
Verstappen now get’s past Kvyat – he’s up into 9th place.
He’s making his way through the grid quickly.
Lap 62
Gutierrez is out of the race.
Ricciardo makes his way past Kvyat.
Verstappen is clearing the cars – he’s finding the grip with brilliant racing and is up into 7th place.
Lap 65
Vettel behind Sainz – battling for 4th place.
Verstappen makes his way past Hulkenberg – he’s up into 6th place.
Lap 66
Verstappen right behind Vettel. He’s closing the gap.
The battle continues between the two – they come close and Vettel goes off-track.
Verstappen up into 5th place.

Verstappen now makes his way past Sainz and is up into 4th place.
He’s clearing cars very quickly and the rain is really suiting his driving style.
Vettel – “He pushed me off the track, I had the nose in front a little bit and he just pushed me off the track.”
