Hamilton Leads The Drivers Championship
After the Hungarian Grand Prix (see race recap here) we now have a new leader in the drivers championship.
With a good start, Lewis Hamilton immediately took-off and picked up a lot of speed down the main straight, then dominating most of the race.
At one point we did see the Mercedes team putting pressure on the driver with Ricciardo closing in on the top two – even suggesting that if Lewis couldn’t pick up the pace they would pit Rosberg first meaning there would have, more than likely, been another winner.
Bringing the car home – Lewis Hamilton is now 6 points ahead of his team-mate Rosberg in the drivers championship.
A blow to the newly-signed Mercedes drivers however this is Formula 1 and as we know, things can change in one race!
Earlier this season it looked like Rosberg would be winning the championship with Hamilton rapidly losing his grip on the title due to unreliability issues and simply not finding the balance in his car….. now it looks like the odds have switched, again.
So we go into the final race (Germany) before the summer break with Hamilton in the lead of the drivers championship….. this is Rosbergs’ home race (even though he resides in Monaco) so he will probably get more support from the crowd which could give him the boost….
