LIVE 2018 Russian Grand Prix – FORMULA 1 2018 VTB RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX

Location: Sochi, Russia

Race Weekend: Formula 1 2018 VTB Russian Grand Prix

The Russian Grand Prix – a track that has caused havoc at the start of the race in the past, especially for Sebastian Vettel. Following on from yesterday’s Russian GP Qualifying, we’re not getting ready for the race later today and here, you’ll be able to see live race updates as they happen – including driver interviews and photos.

Sit back and enjoy the 2018 Russian Grand Prix!

The red carpet is out on the track as drivers are getting ready to make their way out for the track parade and media interviews.

There’s a little bit of rain making an appearance – nothing drastic, just a few dots here and there….. for now!

Charles Leclerc: “It’s going to be a difficult race – both Red Bull’s will be starting at the back and it will be difficult to keep them behind. It’s a difficult race to overtake but hopefully we can manage things.”

Valtteri Bottas: “It’s a track that I seem to find the flow of the circuit at – there’s not a lot of problematic corners for me so I enjoy it here. I’m just hoping to get a good start, the key thing for winning the race is if I get a good start. We need to use common sense, he (Hamilton) is fighting for the championship and I am not so we need to use common sense and see what we can do but I will try and win the race.”

Lewis Hamilton: “There’s quite a few British flags here – some are half Russian, half British so it’s nice to see how many people turn up to this race. I’m excited – I’m always taking the positivity from family, friends, people I talk to, when you see all the great support, the encouragement from the team. It’s everywhere!”

“I hope it will continue today – it’s raining so it’s the first one we’ve had rain at here. Generally, when it’s dry – it’s a boring race but still, we always want to best race for people and when it’s damp like it is now – it’s fun. I think this will be tricky race, a long afternoon and we’ll do our best – you just hope your senses are on point as normal.”

Sebastian Vettel: “No, the race hasn’t started so it’s not bad. We should be fine – we should be having a good race. It’s just a few drops of rain so we will see later on.”

Max Verstappen: “I’ll be spending a few days home and then travelling straight to Japan. Nobody is at home so I’m going to be alone. It’s just a birthday – I hope I’ll be around till 75! 18 was a party year, 21 is just another birthday…. By the time I’m 30, I hope that I’ll be able to have 4 World Championships.”

PIT LANE OPEN – 2018 Russian Grand Prix

The pit lane is now open and drivers are making their way round the track to join the grid – there’s not long to go till the start of the race and as mentioned earlier, it’s damp on the track following the dots of rain here and there.

It’s the final lap and Lewis Hamilton WINS the 2018 Russian Grand Prix!

It’s Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel who make up the top 3 drivers.

Toto Wolff to Valtteri Bottas: “Valtteri, this is Toto. This is a difficult day for you and this is something that we will be speaking about after the race.”

Lewis Hamilton: “It’s a difficult day – Valtteri did a fantastic job all weekend so he’s a gentleman for letting me past. It’s been a great weekend for the team and usually we’re elated but I can understand how he feels – we’re trying to win both championships and whilst we’re not feeling fantastic, I know that he will do amazing in the rest of the races.”

Valtteri Bottas: “It’s a difficult day for us but a good result for the team. A difficult race as everyone saw. We always want to go through all the scenarios especially for the championship and the constructors – today, it was difficult to product what would happen but it is what it is.”

Sebastian Vettel: “It was a tricky day, they worked very well together (Mercedes) and I think we surprised them with an out lap and Lewis. Lewis was close and I managed to cover but I didn’t see him in the left-hander. I knew he was somewhere on the outside and I left room, even though I didn’t want to do but it’s to remain fair.”

“I think we all had similar pace but we were better with tyres and I tried to push and put the pressure on Valtteri but we did what we could and I lost a few seconds. I had a tiny lock-up and Lewis was close on new tyres whereas I wasn’t but it was a good race but not the result we wanted.”

There’s lots more on the way this afternoon so you can check back for all the latest interviews, press conference features and photos from the weekend.
